Company Challenge
Stockholms Åkeri is a transport services company with activities split into 3 business areas, Building and Plant, Delivery and Distribution, and Tanker Vehicles. The company wanted to improve efficiency by removing paper-based procedures, rationalizing administration, minimizing human error and having full control of vehicle location.
Previously, the system had double administration routines, registering orders on paper then sending them to admin for registration into the system at a later time. This led to errors in orders, goods receipts and routines, and delayed the invoicing process, tying up capital unnecessarily. The company had poor control of a vehicle’s position unless an operator called a driver by phone. This reduced flexibility in vehicle fleet operations.
Why Consafe Logistics?
Stockholm’s Åkeri wanted a supplier with a track record of integrating similar systems that could offer seamless integration to their current Transport Management and ERP systems. The supplier needed to demonstrate the expertise needed to carry out all necessary integration work on-time and on-budget. Consafe Logistics ticked all the boxes. The other major plus with Consafe Logisics was the company’s size, local presence and history of working with similar systems.
The solution: Control Transport
Control Transport is a central control system that currently connects to 135 of Stockholm Åkeri’s 300 vehicles. Order management is integrated in the handheld device and the addresses of all orders are conveyed via the GPS system in the vehicle.
Drivers log into the system when they sit in the cab in the morning. Their terminal displays all orders to be delivered/picked up, along with optimal route planning given by the dispatcher. Drivers then accept orders that they know they can take then start their day. The transport centre is in constant contact with drivers and controllers have the flexibility to reroute vehicles as orders come in. Navigation support is given to all the drivers to make their way to the customer as quick as possible to each delivery point.
Drivers report in real-time as they make deliveries, registering any discrepancies. All communication is time-stamped. Once a delivery is made, or goods are collected, proof of delivery or collection is sign digitally on the mobile terminal and is instantly registered in the Control Transport database.
On-time integration
The Agreement for the system was signed in 2007. The system was delivered and adapted during the summer and a pilot project using ten vehicles was successfully tested during the autumn. The system was then rolled out in the winter or 07/08 on time, on budget and with full integration.
Results:
Control Transport has removed most human error, making drivers and control staff far more efficient. Double administration routines have been eliminated and cashflow has significantly improved. Stockholms Åkeri can now invoice 15 days earlier than previously. Having full visibility of the position of each vehicle cuts down on administration time an enables full flexibility of the fleet in the field. GPS positioning helps drives find the optimal route to and from deliveries, improving productivity.

"Apart from the obvious benefits that Control Transport system has given, we were proud of our own commitment to installing a system that filled the requirements of Stockholms Åkeri. Our concept is to go the extra mile for our customers, and this is an example of where it paid off. All components were installed according to jointly agreed time and budget schedules, and we have achieved our goals of making Stockholms Åkeri even more efficient".
