Effective production control at Jøtul

23/06, 2008

Jøtul has begun to use the ProdMan production optimisation system supplied by Consafe Logistics. "This solution ensures that all production data is always updated in real-time."

"It simplifies control and gives better internal delivery precision. The result is a reduction in the amount of work in progress, since queuing time between operations is reduced. In addition, ProdMan contributes to better follow-up capacity, for checking the reported time used in production," says Lars Hauger, department manager for internal logistics at Jøtul.

Jotul_logoJøtul has manufactured and marketed cast iron stoves since 1853, focusing on quality, timeless design, added value for the users, and a high level of safety. Jøtul currently exports to 34 countries in five continents.

In order to improve their focus areas, Jøtul has begun to use the ProdMan production optimisation system supplied by Consafe Logistics. This solution contributes to improving the organisation structure in the factory, and ensures improved documentation flow, balance checks and real-time information. The investment has resulted in considerable cost savings at the Jøtul factory, due to factors such as: Detailed planning, Information to operators, Marking/label printing, Data in real-time, Reporting and statistics and Tracing facilities.

Detailed planning

This is done by serial number settings in the Movex operation plan. ProdMan then presents a detailed view of the operation plan.

Information to operators

ProdMan links several databases and makes them available to the operator.

Marking/label printing

Even if they have come a long way with registration accuracy, there is still some further potential for more accurate checking that the quantity actually produced agrees with the quantity reported in Movex. For this reason, they want to be able to link registration of quantities directly to label output. This is done by ensuring that it is not possible to output a label until the quantity in the container has been registered in ProdMan. In this way, the system functions as an acknowledgement that the registered quantity is correct. It ensures correct marking of barcodes on all the containers in the factory.

Data in real-time

This simplifies production control and gives increased delivery precision. Reduced discrepancies in time reporting by the personnel.

Reporting and statistics

ProdMan offers further possibilities. Standardisation and simplification (automation) of the reporting routines in the factory when consistent, updated reports are retrieved from Movex via Diver.

Tracing facilities

All tracing data is stored in Movex during the production process. It is possible to output reports directly from Movex.

Further potential

The system has the potential ability to register quantities when connected to a PLC. When the operator starts an operation, the number of units produced are automatically acquired from the machine and sent to Movex.
