Changing Roles and Growing Forward at Consafe Logistics

Karol and Marcin’s career journeys show how people can grow in new directions.

Introduction 

Have you ever thought about changing direction in your career? It can be exciting — and a little daunting. Moving from one role to another often means leaving behind what you know and finding the courage to learn something new. But when you have the right support, those steps can take you further than you ever imagined. 

At Consafe Logistics, growth is not about titles or straight lines. It’s about people who are curious enough to try, brave enough to take the leap, and supported enough to succeed. Two colleagues, Karol Milczarek and Marcin Kozłowski, show what this looks like in practice. Both are graduates of the Consafe Logistics High Potential Program (HPP) — an internal development initiative for colleagues with the ambition to take on broader roles, including leadership. Their journeys prove that careers can grow forward in many different directions. 


Karol’s Story: From Contractor to Senior Lead Developer 

Karol’s first assignment with Consafe Logistics came through an external IT consultancy, where he started as a junior developer just after graduation. Those first years gave him valuable experience and introduced him to the Consafe Logistics way of working. 

In 2020, he decided to join the company directly. “That’s when I really started to feel like a member of the Consafe Logistics team. It was the team I wanted to play for,” he recalls. 

Soon after, Karol joined the Dutch Heineken project team, contributing to one of Consafe Logistics’ large international customer implementations. Joining a new team abroad was daunting, and he admits he had doubts at first. “At the beginning I had some fears. But we created clear ground rules, and slowly a real team spirit grew. Everyone had a voice, and I felt proud to be part of that.” 

Today, Karol is a Senior Lead Developer/ System Architect. But for him, growth has been about more than technology. “I know who I want to be: a mentor and a leader. It’s about listening more, understanding different personalities, and supporting people so they feel important.” 

Through the Consafe Logistics High Potential Program, Karol stepped further outside his comfort zone. He practiced handling difficult conversations, presenting in front of large audiences, and managing stress. “Expanding technical knowledge was never a problem. Soft skills were the hardest part — and the most valuable to learn.”

Marcin’s Story: From Warehouse Operator, to Lead Developer in R&D 

Marcin’s career started in 2010, not in IT, but on the warehouse floor at a company that later became a Consafe Logistics customer. When Astro WMS® — Consafe Logistics’ warehouse management system (WMS) for large enterprise customers — was introduced, he quickly became fascinated. “Even when we worked on paper, I was always thinking about improvements. With  Astro WMS® I got noticed — and I was chosen to be the WMS administrator.” 

That role gave him confidence and sparked something deeper. He studied logistics, learned programming, and took on new responsibilities — even coordinating the relocation of a 10,000 m² warehouse. “I was the first one to walk into that empty building. It was overwhelming, but coordinating people, departments, and equipment taught me what teamwork really means.” 

Eventually, Marcin joined Consafe Logistics as a Junior Developer in the Operations department, working closely with customers to optimize warehouse processes and support Astro WMS® projects. Later, he took the step into a Software Developer role and finally moved to R&D department. “I wasn’t a senior programmer yet, but I knew my mix of logistics knowledge and technical curiosity could make a difference.” 

Today, he is a Lead Developer and Scrum Master in Consafe Logistics’ R&D department, where the company’s software is designed and developed. He codes every day, but also mentors colleagues and helps drive projects forward. “There’s no boredom here. Every month brings new technologies and new ideas. My motivation is diversity and constant learning.” 

Through the Consafe Logistics High Potential Program, he also gained broader insight into business and leadership. “I learned how all the parts of the organization connect — from R&D to management and finance. It showed me there are still many levels I can explore.”

Karol and Marcin’s career journeys may look very different, but they share something important: both had the chance to grow in new directions, supported by their teams and by a culture that believes in people’s potential.
