PostNord TPL is the Nordic region’s largest third-party logistics provider, with nearly 3,000 employees across 24 sites in Sweden, Denmark, and Finland. Managing around 700,000 square meters of warehouse space, the company plays a key role in supporting logistics operations for a wide range of customers across industries.
With a strong focus on innovation, PostNord TPL continuously invests in automation, AI, and sustainable operations. The ambition is clear: to stay at the forefront of logistics development while reducing environmental impact and delivering efficient, high-quality services to customers.
Operating in a highly competitive market, PostNord TPL must continuously improve efficiency and productivity to maintain its leading position.
Incremental improvements are no longer enough. Staying competitive requires leveraging new technologies that can unlock measurable operational gains. At the same time, any new solution must integrate seamlessly into existing operations without adding complexity or disrupting performance.
For both operations and IT, the challenge was to identify a solution that could optimize internal warehouse flows, reduce unnecessary movements, and deliver tangible results, while building on an already stable and proven system landscape.
Solution
PostNordTPL chose to implement the AI module Goods Move Optimization within Astro WMS® from Consafe Logistics. The decision was based on the module’s ability to intelligently optimize goods movements in real time, minimizing empty pallet transport, preventing congestion, and improving overall flow efficiency. By reducing unnecessary movements, the solution directly lowers operational costs while also contributing to sustainability goals.
Because the AI functionality is fully integrated into Astro WMS®, all processes remain coordinated within one system. This ensures seamless execution, consistent business logic, and no additional integration complexity, an important factor for both operational stability and IT efficiency.
With over 10 years of collaboration with Consafe Logistics, adopting AI through the Goods Move Optimization module was a natural next step in PostNord TPL’s continuous development journey.
Forklift drivers now perform significantly fewer empty pallet movements, as flows are dynamically optimized by the system. This has resulted in a 28% reduction in driving distances, leading to increased efficiency and reduced energy consumption.
These improvements not only lower operational costs but also directly support PostNord TPL’s sustainability ambitions by reducing environmental impact.
